Restaurant Review || The 450 Pizza Joint - Sullivan's Island, SC
Hey everyone! I hope you all got the chance to enjoy your weekend, I know I got the chance to spend some quality time with my family! We always try to do something really fun together and I love making memories with Sophia!
I've been wanting to do a restaurant review on my blog for a while now. I just didn't feel comfortable doing it because of taking photos of the food and the possibility of people watching me... I just wasn't too sure how to go about it. But low and behold today's the day I broke out of my shell and it went so much smoother than I imagined!
Today, I'm sharing a place that you won't want to pass up. Whether you're living in Charleston, vacationing, or just passing through, this is The 450 Pizza Joint located on Middle Street on Sullivan's Island. My family and I frequent Sullivan's Island probably more than any place in the Charleston area because we have slowly turned into professional beach bums! We pack up the truck and the kiddo early on Saturday mornings and head out for a morning on the beach followed by a lunch in town. To be honest, for as much as we go to Sullivan's Island we've only ever eaten at Poe's Tavern which is a fantastic burger place across the street from 450 Pizza. But yesterday we promised ourselves to try a new restaurant and trust me, this place won't disappoint!
As soon as we walked in we were greeted immediately by their staff. The girls were so sweet to my family, especially Sophia. That means so much to us because a lot of the time when we go out to eat, we are under a ton of stress. If you're a parent with a toddler I'm sure you totally understand. These kiddos don't last that long so when they start to get coo-coo, it's time to pack up and hit the road.
I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere and the restaurant design. This place was super clean, which is the first thing I notice when walking into any establishment. The restaurant is a biker/motorcycle theme. Matt and I got a chance to ask our server (Claire, who's an AMAZING server by the way) what the significance of "450" meant and she explained that the owners of the pizza joint went to college together, when they decided to purchase a motorcycle, the cost of their first motorcycle was $450.00 dollars. Later on when they were creating the name/theme of the restaurant the number 450 just stuck. Pretty funny right?
DESIGN & DECOR
If you follow me on Instagram you will notice that I have a thing for restaurant decor, especially lighting, which I am Obsessed with! The second we walked in Matt said, "This is totally a Katie place." He knows me too well. He was right, 450 Pizza Joint's design is so beautiful and has perfect detail from the color scheme, retro juke box, motorcycle helmet lighting and beautifully detailed tile behind their huge bar. Every detail you can imagine was there and in my opinion designed perfectly. Also for those of you who are football fans, another added bonus is they have a ton of televisions for the games on Saturday and Sunday. They also run a great deal with $10.00 pitchers or a bucket of beer on Saturday.
MENU & DRINK SELECTIONS
The Menu at 450 Pizza Joint is huge! Matt and I are definitely foodies and loving going to a great restaurant and knocking out the whole menu one visit at a time. I was shocked when I saw all the options on 450's menu with fairly moderate prices. Although we didn't order drinks, we noticed their beer and wine selection went on for days. They sell a ton of local brews and ton of imported wines that we were both really impressed by.
We orderef two pies, the "Drunk Pig" and the "Sweet Fig" which were both out of this world! It's definitely going to be hard to go back and not order both, but I know that all of their pies have to be just as amazing as the ones we had. I'm sure most of you know that when you order a Pizza at a restaurant when it is served it is dangerously hot, but not here my friends, this was the perfect temperature and we were able to dig in right away. That is some major bonus points in our book! These two pies were by far the best specialty pizzas we've had in Charleston thus far and we have eaten at a ton of Pizza joints.
I should say we saved the best for last but we were so impressed with everything so I can't really choose what the best part of this experience was. Attached to the restaurant is their ice cream shop and all the ice cream is homemade. They always have a standard nine flavors at a time along with three specialty flavors made daily. It comes with a standard two scoops of ice cream in the coolest motorcycle cup. The homemade ice cream was so delicious. Matt and I couldn't get over that we've been missing out on this place for so long!
If you live in the area or get the chance to visit the Charleston, SC., I highly recommend you stop by and grab a bite to eat here. I promise, you won't regret it!
